Write measurements

The department pays for the work that was measured on site, not for the quantity in the Schedule of Work. The Measurements tab is your measurement sheet: you write what was built for each item, and ContractBill works out the quantity and carries it into the rest of the bill.

Checked against ContractBill on 12 October 2026

The Abstract, the Deviation statement, the Cement statement and the Recovery are all worked out from these measurements. An item with no measurements shows as not measured on the Abstract, and it is never counted as zero.

How to write them

  1. Open the tender and press Open bill, then press Measurements in the row of tabs.
  2. Every item of your Schedule of Work has its own box, headed with its S.No and description, for example Item 4.
  3. Press Add row and type one row for each part of the work you measured. Give the row a Label, like north wall, so the AE can follow it.
  4. Type Nos, then the sizes the unit needs: Length, Width and Height for cum, Length and Width for sqm, and Length only for a running metre.
  5. Qty works itself out on each row, and the Total at the bottom of the box is the measured quantity of that item.
The Measurements tab with Item 4, a north wall row, and a red door opening row taken off the total
The Measurements tab on a sample tender. Item 4 has 2 rows, and the door opening is a deduction, so its row is red.

Things to know

  • A blank size box counts as 1, so leave out the sizes the unit does not need.
  • A blank Nos is different, it means the row is not filled yet, so that row is not counted. Type 1 if there is only one.
  • For a deduction, like a door or a window, put a minus sign in Nos. The row turns red and comes off the total.
  • Factor is any extra multiplier the measurement needs, for example 0.5 for a triangle.
  • The S.No stays exactly as it is in your Schedule of Work, so the AE can check each item against his own copy.
  • Qty is never rounded. The screen shows 2 decimal places and the full figure goes into the Abstract, so the total matches your measurement book.
  • Everything saves by itself as you type. In the excel, this sheet is called RE.
How it is worked out

Each row is worked out like this, with an empty box taken as 1:

Qty = Nos x Factor x Length x Width x Height

The item's quantity is the total of its rows, with the deductions taken off. For the brick work in the picture, in cum:

RowWorkingQty
North wall2 x 1 x 3.50 x 0.23 x 3.004.830
Door opening-1 x 1 x 1.00 x 0.23 x 2.10-0.483
Total4.347

The screen shows 4.35, and the Abstract multiplies the full 4.347 by the rate.
